Updating an XTS/XTSPlus In-Wall Touchscreen to 10.02.05 or Higher

 

Background

A bug has been discovered with the “Check for Updates” settings option in all versions of the XTS and XTSPlus touchscreens prior to version 10.02.05.  Using “Check for Updates” from the settings menu of the XTS-Series Touchscreens will not result in any new updates being found.

Once Version 10.02.05 or higher is loaded on the device through the process below, all future updates will function properly using the “Check for Updates” feature.

Note: Version 10.02.05 was released on March 19, 2020. Any XTS or XTSPlus installed prior to that date is subject to this update process if it ever requires updating.

A quick way to tell the XTS apart from the XTSPlus is if it has a proximity sensor on it.

To find out which firmware you are currently running, follow the steps below. Once you know which device and firmware is installed, choose the appropriate option below to learn how to manually update to the latest version.

  1. From the Now Playing Screen, tap the Settings icon in the top right
  2. From the Settings Menu, scroll down and tap the “About Russound XTS” option
  3. Confirm the Version Number

 

XTS 

Do you need to update the XTS?

If you have Version 10.01.06 or 10.00.14 – An update to the XTS is completely optional and NOT required.  The only added functionality is made up of minor aesthetic improvements for the new Napster streaming audio service as well as the addition of album-art based navigation for Russound Favorites.  We only recommend this update if your customer wishes to have the album-art based Favorite functionality in order to match the functionality they have in their MyRussound app on their phones or tablets.

If you have Version 8.00.02 or earlier - An update is only required if a Russound MBX-Series streamer is going to be used with the XTS.  If you will be adding an MBX-Series streamer to an existing installation, you can perform the update when you are on the job site to install the MBX-Series product.  The update is not needed before then.

Note: The reason we are labeling this update process as optional is so that each Russound installer can best determine when to do this manual update process.  The best time to do this update is during a normally scheduled visit to the installation, for example when other equipment is added, changed, or updated.  You should not need to do a special trip only for this update.  If you are going to be at the job site for any other reason, we do recommend performing this update on all installed XTS devices at that time because it will make future updates much easier by enabling them as a simple selection from the touchscreen settings menu.

 

XTSPlus

Do you need to update the XTSPlus?

If you have Version 10.02.05 or newer using the MyRussound interface – An update to the XTSPlus is highly recommended.  The update will install the current Russound app onto the XTSPlus adding the same functionality and modern aesthetics that are available on iOS and Android phones and tablets.  Updating the XTSPlus will make sure that the users of the Russound app will have the same interface on their XTSPlus touchscreen as they do on their phones and tablets.  Because it is moving to the new app, Version numbers will change to the Russound app versioning numbers beginning with 1.3.1.  The update can be performed easily by going to the Settings menu and selecting Check for Updates.

If you have a Version lower than 10.02.05 using the MyRussound interface - An update to the XTSPlus is highly recommended for the same reasons but an extra process is required in order to perform the Update.  Please follow the steps below.  Once the XTSPlus has been updated using this process, all future updates will be as simple as selecting "Check for Updates" from the settings menu.

Updating an XTSPlus – If you currently have firmware 10.00.14 or 10.01.06

    This update method can be easily performed without removing an XTSPlus from the wall and works on the two versions listed above only.

Updating an XTSPlus – If you have any earlier version of the firmware (lower than 10.00.14)

     This update method is fast but requires a Windows laptop and removing the XTSPlus from the wall if it is already installed in a home.  See the PDF below for details.
